I should probably break this new install in with a post, so why not do an album post for the first time in literal years?
If you've read my previous posts, you've seen me shit on Led Zeppelin before and I want to start off by saying that this post doesn't negate those sentiments; they did steal music from Black blues artists and Jimmy Page is a scumbag pedo. There is no consideration of them being gods in this house and to be honest, the only one I don't explicitly dislike is John Paul Jones.
Now onto Led Zeppelin III. It's their third album, if you haven't guessed, and it's got an entirely different feel than their first 2 albums. The first 2 are straight up hard rock and blues, though there are softer tracks on Led Zeppelin II, like "Thank You," for example. III starts off with "Immigrant Song," which is fast and loud. It makes it seem like you're in for a wild ride but it's followed by "Friends" and the latter completely dispels that assumption. The standout song by far on side A of that record is "Since I've Been Loving You." You can really feel that song, and it's a lot like their later work (think Physical Graffiti). Don't let the 7+ minute length deter you because it's well worth the listen and doesn't feel at all drawn out.
Side B has 2 traditional songs, but the 3 that are theirs are all good. My favorite is "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp," which is an upbeat acoustic song about Robert Plant going on a walk with his dog (see the picture below). I swear the dog aspect isn't why I love it, though! It's just really fun and happy, perfect for a drive on a warm sunny day.
There's a deluxe edition of the album with the usual demos and alternate takes, if you're into that. I guess I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to albums, I like to experience them as they were at the time of the original release. Either way, if you even remotely like a Led Zeppelin song, you've gotta check out III; just make sure you start with the volume low so you don't lose hearing when "Immigrant Song" hits.
